Of Mexican Descent - Exitos y Mas Exitos (edición de lujo)
Though they have placed their poignant and genre-defying spin on LA hip-hop for the past 10 years, Of Mexican Descent (2mex and Xololanxinxo) remain tucked away in obscurity. Their vinyl-only EP, Exitos y Mas Exitos (originally released in 1997), has become a benchmark in the post-Goodlife Café lineage and 1990’s underground hip-hop as a whole. Through this release, countless live appearances, and underground tapes and CDs, they have become known for their effortless teetering between psychedelic rock leanings and the provocative postures of the Goodlife emcee, and have influenced a generation of leftfield hip-hop groups. Still, their real gift to this formative era is the fully realized, intelligent perspective from the seemingly silent descendents of Native American peoples that infuses their work. The re-issue of this classic, expands on the original creation to include a progression of material surrounding the EP, further solidifying the release as an untainted artifact from a prolific time.
